NEW CITY – A former gymnastics coach from Rockland County, who is serving a prison sentence on a prior conviction in the county, was arraigned on Friday on a felony charge of course of sexual conduct against a child.

The charges allege that between 2012 and 2015, Joseph Lewin, 71, sexually abused a female victim under the age of 13 while serving as a gymnastics coach at his gym in Hillburn.

Ramapo Town Police are encouraging individuals with information to contact their detective bureau at 845-357-2400, x4356, or the Special Victims Unit of the Rockland District Attorney’s Office at 845-364-2800.

“While nothing will erase the trauma and grief suffered by a victim, my office is dedicated to getting justice on their behalf and supporting them as they move forward,” said DA Thomas Walsh II.

Based on the current charge, Lewin was remanded to the Rockland County Jail without bail.

A temporary order of protection was issued in favor of the victim.
