Volleyball Adds Second Sweep to Weekly Resume

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Volleyball collected another conference sweep on Friday following a 3-0 victory over Southern Arkansas. The Bulldogs have now won three matches in a row, all conference contests, and have not dropped a set in their last eight.

With the win, the Dawgs move to 5-2 in GAC play and back to an even 8-8 on the year.

After a dominant first set where the Bulldogs almost doubled the Southern Arkansas score, SWOSU continued momentum into the second by building a five-point margin through the middle stages of the set. The Dawgs eventually led it 22-17, but let the Muleriders hang around a few points too long. SAU scored five of the next six to make things interesting before SWOSU would buckle down and finish things thanks to kills from Carmen Kinsey and Taryn Galt.

SWOSU decided to make the third (and final) set interesting by making it one that required a comeback. In the start of the frame, nothing was going right for the home team. SAU had serves hitting the top of the net for points and SWOSU was committing errors leading to points.

That stopped at the 15-6 mark. The Bulldogs dug in and made their run. Maicee Morgan stepped up to the service line and served the next four points – all scores for the Bulldogs. With the momentum shifting, she came back around at the 21-19 mark and served for five more consecutive points.

SWOSU retook the lead and did not look back, going on to win the set in comeback fashion 25-22. After a slow start to the set, the Dawgs ended the third hitting a match high .368 combined. Lacy Mott came alive to rack up seven of her team high 13 kills in the final frame. Zoey Sparks chipped in four in the final set on six attempts. Her and Kinsey posted a pair of lethal blocks down the stretch as momentum boosters.

SAU hit .197 in the match, compared to SWOSU's .336. The Bulldog block denied five points in the match, led by the Sparks and Kinsey duo with four assisted apiece. SWOSU finished with 68 digs, 20 more than SAU, led by Cameron Turner with 16. Turner and Terez Chavez each finished with 19 assists at setter.

After two sweeps in conference this week, SWOSU will take a break from league action to battle Cameron next Tuesday in Weatherford. That non-conference matchup is set for 7pm inside the Pioneer Event Center.
