HS Football: Fredonia Dominates Silver Creek, Dunkirk Loses Fifth Straight Game

Coming off a tough loss to Salamanca last week, Fredonia entered Week 5 of the high school football season in need of a bounce-back win to stay within reach of the top of Class C South. On Friday night at the Orange Bowl, the Hillbillies got the performance they needed -- a one-sided 41-7 triumph over Silver Creek on their homecoming night in a game broadcast on WDOE.

The tone was set on the game's first play, as Fredonia (4-1, 2-1) scored a touchdown on defense. Silver Creek (2-3, 1-2) sophomore Giavannie Kuppel fumbled after taking a pitch, and Davion White scooped up the loose ball and ran it back 19 yards for the game's first points. Meanwhile, the Hillbillies' offense tacked on three more touchdowns in the 1st quarter. Their first drive went 85 yards in four plays, ending with Tim Field recovering a White fumble in the end zone for a 13-0 Fredonia advantage. Micah Davis added a pair of rushing touchdowns to extend the lead to 27-0. In the 2nd quarter, the Billies found the end zone two more times; a 31-yard pass from Ethan Fry to Keegan Whitfield made the score 34-0. Then, after a turnover on downs, Fry accounted for all 41 yards in a two-play drive, capping the march with a 1-yard run for a 41-0 lead. With the game in hand, Fredonia gave playing time to many of its backup players. The Black Knights avoided a shutout with a 13-yard touchdown run by Kuppel in the 3rd quarter.

Micah Davis led Fredonia's offense with 107 yards from scrimmage on five touches to go with his two touchdowns. Also for the Billies, Ethan Fry completed six of his 10 pass attempts for 94 yards and a touchdown and added 38 yards on the ground. For Silver Creek, Giavannie Kuppel carried the ball 11 times for 43 yards and a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Dunkirk is still searching for a win this season after losing 38-20 at Albion on Friday. The Marauders trailed 12-7 at halftime and were unable to catch up in the second half. Quarterback Noah Sikes ran for a pair of touchdowns in the loss, while Quanteer Neallard added a rushing touchdown of his own.
