Westfield prove too much to handle and blows out Holyoke, 53-22

HOLYOKE, Mass -- Behind four touchdowns from Kaevon Eddington, three touchdowns from Jaxson St. Pierre, and 300 yards combined between the duo, Westfield football defeated Holyoke, 53-22.

The Bombers (3-0-1), following Friday’s win, are outscoring opponents, 135-43, and remain at an undefeated pace in the Valley League. Westfield outmatched Holyoke (1-3), 453-376 in total yards.

Eddington finished with 141 rushing yards on 20 carries. St. Pierre had 97 passing yards (10-for-10), 62 rushing yards on seven carries, one passing touchdown, and two rushing touchdowns, for 159 total yards.

”We’re feeling great,” Eddington said. “Last year we made it to the game before Gillette, so, we gotta come out strong again. People doubt us, we got a lotta seniors, but, we’re a young team, so, we just gotta show ‘em. Show em what we’re capable of.”

Following two injuries at quarterback for Holyoke and with Gavier Fernandez out for the Week 4 contest, the Purple Knights called junior Marty Phillips’ number to play under center.

Phillips finished with 105 passing yards and two passing touchdowns (11-for-14).

Dave Sicard pulled in 66 yards on receptions, including a 35-yard reception right in front of the Holyoke student section, and finished with one receiving touchdown. Asa Allen caught Phillips’ second touchdown pass in the fourth.

Zeph Williams, following Westfield’s second touchdown of the game, took a Bomber kickoff 80 yards, into the endzone to get Holyoke on the board with 9:15 left in the first half.

The Purple Knights fought back for 16 unanswered points in the fourth quarter. But Westfield put the game on ice early. The Bombers put up a 26 and 20 spot in the second and third quarters respectively. Westfield led 33-6 at halftime, capped off by a 13-yard pass from St. Pierre to Lucas Guay, at the halftime horn.

Holyoke will play Minnechaug in Week 5. Westfield will face Central.”I’m lookin’ forward to a lotta hittin’,” Eddington said of the Bombers upcoming matchup with the Golden Eagles. “Doing what I do, playing within myself and let the football do the talking.”
