Montgomery Catholic quarterback Caleb McCreary accounted for 7 touchdowns as the Class 4A No. 1 Knights dismantled rival Montgomery Academy 72-15 on Friday night.
The game was a rematch of last year’s Class 3A semifinal won in surprising fashion by the Eagles 10-7.
This one wasn’t close.
McCreary ran for 251 yards and 5 TDs on just 10 carries and completed 6-of-8 pass attempts for 131 yards and 2 TDs.
EJ Babies added 104 yards and 2 TDs on 9 carries.
Luke Harkless caught 3 passes for 80 yards and had one rush for 16 yards. He scored 2 TDs. Josh Palmer added 3 receptions for 56 yards.
The defense was led by KJ Washington with 6.5 tackles, including 2 TFL. LJ Green had 6 tackles and an interception and Jaden Jones had 5 tackles, including 2 TFL.
Mr. Football candidate and Auburn commit Jeremiah Cobb played sparingly, rushing for 32 yards on just 4 carries.
Kirk Johnson’s team improved to 7-0 overall, 4-0 in Region 2 play. The Knights have outscored the competition 407-57 this season. The Eagles fell to 2-3, 2-2.
