1 Major Reason Bucks Didn’t Get Jordan Clarkson Trade Done

The Milwaukee Bucks didn’t make many changes to their roster this NBA offseason. Every player that was a free agent from last season’s team re-signed with the franchise. Only one player was brought on from another team and that was Joe Ingles, who is rehabbing from ACL surgery.

The Bucks will be running it back with everything pretty much the same until Ingles can get back in the lineup. It makes sense as Milwaukee did win the NBA Championship in 2021 and had Khris Middleton not gotten hurt against the Chicago Bulls in their first-round series, things could have gone differently during the 2022 NBA Postseason.

However, the lack of roster overturn is not from a lack of trying. Milwaukee did engage in some trade talks, as they were looking to bolster their roster to make another run during the playoffs.

Zach Lowe on a recent episode of the Lowe Post Show on ESPN Podcasts revealed that the Bucks were showing interest in Jerami Grant of the Detroit Pistons before he was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers. He expects them to be in on Jae Crowder of the Phoenix Suns as well.

Another trade target of theirs was revealed this week as the team also held discussions with the Utah Jazz centered around Jordan Clarkson. Tony Jones of The Athletic shared the update and why a deal with the Bucks ultimately was not going to get done.

“Milwaukee showed a lot of interest in him. But the Jazz would have had to take back George Hill in a potential trade, and they weren’t going to do that. That was kind of a non-starter for them. But other than Milwaukee, I don’t think there’s really been a serious suitor for Jordan.”

That is a little bit surprising that there was no market for Clarkson. He had been linked to other franchises, such as the Los Angeles Lakers, but it doesn’t sound like the interest was all too serious based on what Jones said.

Not wanting to take back George Hill makes sense as he didn’t look like a player capable of producing at a high level anymore. Alas, for a rebuilding team, if they could have gotten some draft compensation back from the Bucks, it is something they likely would have considered.
