The cause of the fire is under investigation

A 65-year-old man died in a mobile home fire in rural Johnson County, Missouri, Friday afternoon.Authorities said the fire in the 900 block of Northwest 445 Road was reported at 1:03 p.m.Neighbors told firefighters that Richard Coffman, 65, had gone back into the burning home to get his dog and never came back out."Neighbors reported to firefighters the resident said he was going back inside to get his dog," said fire Capt. Joe Jennings. "They saw him enter the mobile home, but no one saw him come back out."Coffman was found dead inside the home with the dog nearby.Jennings said in a news release that fire crews had difficulty getting to the property when they first arrived, and had challenges getting equipment and water close to the burning home. "The location of the mobile home on the property, and simply the property, hindered the responder's access. The mobile home was half engulfed when crews were able to begin searching and extinguishing the fire," Jennings said.The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Missouri State Fire Marshal with assistance from the Johnson County Fire Investigation Unit.
