From Bridge City Police Department: On Friday, September 30, 2022, at approximately 5:13 p.m., officers of the Bridge City Police Department where dispatched to the intersection of FM 1442 and Bessie Heights Road in Bridge City, Texas in reference to an accident involving an automobile and an minibike.
Upon arrival to the scene, the operator of the minibike was found to be deceased.
According to independent witnesses, the operator of the minibike was traveling eastbound on W. Bessie Heights Rd. and the operator of a Ford F-250 was traveling southbound on FM 1442 heading towards Bridge City.
The operator of the minibike reportedly failed to yield the right of way at the intersection of the two roads and was struck by the operator of the F-250.
Orange County Justice of the Peace, Pct. 1 Hershel Stagner, Jr. was called to the scene and pronounced the operator of the minibike deceased. Judge Stagner ordered an autopsy.
The next of kin has been notified.
The deceased has been identified as a Lancy Delious Gibbs, W/M, Age 62 of Orange, Texas.
The accident remains under investigation at this time.

Bridge City Police are investigating a fatal collision on FM 1442, according to authorities.
The accident was reported Friday night on FM 1442 near Bessie Heights Road.
Two troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety assisted at the scene, according to Lt. Chuck Havard, but Bridge City P.D. is overseeing the investigation.
The road was closed for the investigation but it has since reopened.
