CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — When people hear the tragic sound of their phone hitting the Charles River it typically follows with anger and then acceptance that they will never see it again... until one man decided to go Apple bobbing.

WBZ's Matt Shearer spoke with the man who had his hands full... of phones.

Cyrus works on the dock at Kendall Square and has seen his fair share of items falling into the water with no return, "Wallets and jewelry, mostly just phones though," he said.

Shearer asked Cyrus how many of the fallen items have been recovered, "Zero percent up until this guy yesterday," he replied after one man heard the dreaded noise of his phone hitting the water while on a paddle boarding date and decided to go after it.

"I definitely figured it was going to be disgusting and when I got down there I had severely underestimated my assumption," John Anastos from Andover said.

While he didn't find his phone, he did find 11 others. To his surprise, three of them turned on and two of them have since been reunited with their rightful owners.
