Sharpsville stays perfect; complete team effort by Blue Devils

SHARON, Pennsylvania (WKBN) – Sharpsville improved to 6-0 following their 49-28 victory over Sharon. The Blue Devils went for over 400-yards of total offense and their defense came away with three turnovers in the win.

Sharpsville’s quarterback Caullin Summers completed 9 passes for 246 yards and 3 scores. Summers led the team with 126 rushing yards (TD). Caullin’s brother Braedon Sumers scored three times – twice on the ground (45 rushing yards) and one through the air (68 receiving yards). Garen Levis hauled in 3 passes for 98 yards (TD).

For Sharon, Jayveerh White gained 9.9 yards per rush (16 carries, 158 yards). Mikey Rodriques threw for 162 yards and a score. Rodriques also scored twice on the ground.

After forcing a Sharon punt on their first drive, Sharpsville marched down the field 85 yards to open the scoring on a Braedon Summers 19-yard touchdown catch from Caullin Summers. The 9-play drive was highlighted by two completions. The first was on third down at their own 41-yard line when Garen Levis hauled in a 10-yard catch. The second came two plays later with Summers’ 24-yard pass play to Dalton Byerly which placed the ball inside of the red zone.

The Tigers’ answered with a 10-play drive of their own that was aided by three runs of over 7-yards by Jayveerh White including a 25-yard pick up. Mikey Rodriques capped the drive with a 5-yard touchdown run.

On the ensuing drive, Sharpsville was back at it. This time, on the first play from scrimmage, Garen Levis caught a 62-yard pass from Caullin Summers to take the lead right back nineteen seconds later (14-7).

After Liam Campbell’s kickoff, Sharon had the ball pinned in their own territory. Rodriques tried to find a receiver on third down but the ball ricocheted off of his hands and into the waiting arms of Kalvin McCullough. Number 21 took the ball back 21-yards to pay dirt to give the Blue Devils the two-touchdown advantage (21-7).

Sharon responded with a score of their own. Thanks to back-to-back completions to Mister Ham (13 yards) and Bishop Root (37 yards) setting up Rodriques’ second score of the day from 6-yards away to cut the deficit to 7-points.

Just before halftime, Caullin Summers stretched out the lead to 14-points (28-14) on a 3-yard touchdown plunge. Summers’ connected on a pair of passes to Garen Levis (26 yards) and Braedon Summers (24 yards) to help the Blue Devils’ cause.

On their third play of the second half, the Tigers add another score. This time from Jayveerh White, who went 69-yards dashing by the defenders at each level to bring Sharon within 7 points (28-21) of the Blue Devils.

Sharpsville was back at it as Braedon Summers’ went in standing up from 2-yards away to give the Devils’ a 35-21 lead.

The next time, the Blue Devils possessed the ball – Braedon Summers scored his third touchdown of the day to double-up Sharon, 42-21.

Following a Levis interception, the Blue Devils ran the ball eight consecutive times to set up a third down pass play from Caullin Summers to Blaze Campbell to close out their scoring with a 6-yard touchdown (49-21).

Sharon’s Lamont Austin hauled in a 36-yard touchdown pass from Mikey Rodriques with just over four minutes remaining.

The Blue Devils were involved in the first Western Pennsylvania matchup on the Game of the Week back on October 12, 2001 (against Kennedy Catholic).

Next week, Sharon (3-3) takes on Slippery Rock on the road while Sharpsville returns home for a huge game against Farrell.
