Students walk out in protest over woke assistant principal who told staff to use their 'straight, white privilege' to back new gender-neutral homecoming royalty - after prom king and queen titles were axed

Nearly 100 students walked out of Farmington High School in Minnesota in protest on Wednesday after an assistant principal told staff to use their 'straight, white privilege' to protect the pupils.

Administrators were discussing backlash to their decision to do away with the traditional homecoming queen and king titles in favor of gender-neutral 'homecoming royalty,' when Assistant Principal Laura Wagner made the controversial comments.

In an email to her colleagues, Wagner wrote that she and a teacher, Tiffany Fearing, were discussing 'what our presence looks like at the parade and coronation as we switch to royalty instead of a king and queen.'

'Per usual, we have some keyboard warriors who are making Tiffany concerned about student well-being,' Wagner continued. 'I think her concerns are valid, and I want to make sure we are showing up for her and our students.

'This would be a great time to use your straight, white privilege to reassure and support students and staff in doing what they believe is right for our school community.'

The email was leaked soon after, much to the dismay of parents and students, who claim Wagner's remarks are just another example of the school district pushing a 'woke agenda.'

As one parent, who asked not to be identified, explained to FOX News: 'The Farmington, Minnesota school district preaches inclusivity and non-discriminatory actions to the staff and students.

'As a parent, it's offensive and appalling to see that behind closed doors they feel as though they can use certain discriminatory verbiage to push an agenda that parents, students and the community are unaware of.'

'This school has continuously pushed a random agenda of division and exclusivity to the students, which came to light last year, and this is just a new faction of the school's quiet procedural dissidence.'

Wagner is among more than 160 administrators throughout Minnesota who have signed a pledge to 'decenter whiteness' in their curriculum.

But parents and students say the agenda has gone too far, with one pupil who helped organize the walkout on Wednesday lamenting to Alpha News: 'I'm at school to learn, not to get political views.'

Scott Duellman, a parent of students at the school, also said he felt 'Wagner is acting like you should be ashamed if you're straight and white.

'It's like she's saying, "You should be ashamed if you don't stand in our corner.''

He acknowledged that there was some 'terrible history' in America, Alpha News reports, but said we should stop the divisive language and move forward.

'We're past slavery, I was not part of that,' he said. 'My parents were immigrants.

'I had nothing to do with it. My kids had nothing to do with it.

'Yes, this is America, and we're white,' he continued. 'But we shouldn't be ashamed of something I can't control.'

Duellman also said that the change to the homecoming court was mandated by the school administration, saying: 'We live in a republic. The majority is supposed to dictate. We're letting the few dictate.'

Another parent said: 'How are we supposed to move forward in this society where admin think it's OK to use that type of language?

'My concern is they are creating a bigger gap than a bridge, and they are accomplishing the opposite of what they are trying to do.'

DailyMail.com has reached out to Wagner and Tiffany Fearing, the teacher to whom Wagner was referring to in her email, for comment.

In a statement, the Farmington School District said it is 'aware of an email that was sent to a small number of staff regarding the Farmington High School homecoming parade and coronation, which is now circulating.

'We cannot comment specifically on this as it is a private personnel matter; however, the district is addressing the situation.

'As a public school district serving our whole community through providing safe learning environments is always our primary focus.'
