After pickup crashes into farm combine, rescuers work 2 hours to free teen driver

OTTAWA COUNTY, MI -- Rescuers worked two hours to free a teen driver from an overturned pickup after a serious crash with a farm combine.

The crash happened about 1:10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30 on Eighth Avenue near Garfield Street in Wright Township.

Ottawa County sheriff’s deputies said an 18-year-old female from Coopersville was driving a Chevy Silverado south on Eighth Avenue when the truck drifted across the center line and struck a northbound John Deere combine.

The pickup went into a ditch and overturned. The collision also a front wheel on the combine to come off.

Rescuers worked two hours to free the 18-year-old from the pickup. She was then flown by West Michigan Air Care medical helicopter to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital.

Police said had injuries to her abdomen and legs.

The driver of the combine, a 52-year-old Marne man, was not injured.
