According to a press release from the Lufkin Police Department, officers responded to a robbery at the Lufkin Pizza Hut on Timberland Drive Saturday night. An employee of the restaurant was wounded and was transported to a local hospital.

Witnesses said that two men described as skinny black males wearing masks and gloves entered the Pizza Hut around 11 p.m. - one of them with a long gun. They demanded money from the two employees who were on duty at the time. One of the employees was struck with the gun and shot in the leg. There are no further details as to whether the employees resisted the robbery attempt or if an altercation ensued.

The wounded employee was taken by ambulance to a local hospital conscious and alert. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The suspects did not get any money in the robbery attempt. They fled the store in an unknown direction and it is unknown if they were on foot or in a vehicle.
