The Taylor Sheridan-Verse: Jennifer Ehle Joins’ ‘1923,’ Prequel To ‘Yellowstone’ & Three More Added To ‘Lioness’ CIA Drama

Taylor Sheridan is hyper-busy over at Paramount+, building up his “Yellowstone” TV empire, but he also has other adjacent irons in the fire. For one, “Tulsa King,” starring Sylvester Stallone as a mafia capo who relocates to Oklahoma, premieres on the streamer on November 13 (which apparently connects to “Yellowstone” too). But two more shows are getting close to becoming a reality too.

There’s “1923” yet another “Yellowstone” prequel on the way, the generation of Duttons after the ones on “1883,” and “Lioness” is on the way, too; a CIA drama Sheridan has on deck co-produced by Nicole Kidman and led by Zoe Saldaña. So, let’s get into the updates. This week, two more cast members joined “1923,” Jennifer Ehle (“Pride and Prejudice,” “Fifty Shades of Grey”) and “Game of Thrones” alumnus Jerome Flynn.

Starring Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, the next installment of the Yellowstone chapter will introduce a new generation of the Dutton family and explore the early 20th century when pandemics, historic drought, the end of Prohibition, and the Great Depression all plague the mountain West and the Duttons who call it home. Ehle will portray an Irish nun who teaches at the school for American Indians in Montana that Teonna Rainwater (Amineh Nieves). Flynn will play a hard-headed Scot with a brogue and the leader of the local sheepmen. The “1923” cast also includes James Badge Dale, Brandon Sklenar, Robert Patrick, Darren Mann, Michelle Randolph, Marley Shelton, Brian Geraghty, and Julia Schlaepfer.

Additionally, Deadline reports there are three more joining the main cast of Saldaña’s “Lioness.”

Austin Hébert, Hannah Love Lanier, and Jonah Wharton are the latest actors to join the ensemble cast of “Lionness.” The trio join Saldaña, Laysla De Oliveira, Dave Annable, LaMonica Garrett, and James Jordan. Based on a real-life CIA program of the same name, De Oliveira plays a young marine recruited to join an elite CIA task force with plans to bring down a terrorist organization from the inside out. Saldaña plays Joe, the Lioness program’s station chief tasked with training her female undercover operatives.

Hébert and Wharton play CIA SAD operatives as part of Joe’s team. Meanwhile, Lanier plays Joe and Neil’s (Annable) daughter. Hébert made his feature film debut in “Jack Reacher: Never Go Back” and also appears in “Detroit,” “12 Strong,” and “Above Suspicion.” His TV credits include Netflix’sUnbelievable” and Showtime’sRay Donovan,” reprising his role in that show for the 2022 film. Wharton’s movie credits include “Manodrome,” “Cora Robert,” and “The Rookie.” He’s also starred in TV shows like “Castle,” “NCIS,” and “Rizzoli & Isles.” Lanier also stars in Amazon’s upcoming “Road House” reboot with Jake Gyllenhaal and Conor McGregor.

No word on when to expect “Lioness” on Paramount+, but Paramount insists “1923” will debut on Paramount+ in December. That seems a little nuts as “Yellowstone” will still be on the air, so will “Tulsa King” and the second seasons of “1883” and Sheridan’s other show, “The Mayor Of Kingstown,” starring Jeremy Renner, are also said to be coming this fall. That’s super overcrowded programming, frankly, but anything is possible, I guess.

Still to come? Sheridan also has “6666,” another “Yellowstone” spin-off, “1883: The Bass Reeves Story,” an “1883” spin-off, and “Land Man” in development at the streamer. The man never ceases to churn out his brand of crime-action.
