One killed in Mesquite apartment fire

MESQUITE, TX (1080 KRLD) - One person is killed in an apartment fire in Mesquite this morning.

The fire broke out shortly after 2:30 Friday morning in a building at the Tradewinds Apartments on Tradewind Dr.

"A total of 12 apartment units were affected by the fire and approximately 30 residents were displaced," says Tommy Green, assistant Mesquite fire chief. "We regret to report there is one fatality resulting from this fire."

The city and the Red Cross are helping the displaced residents.

Thirteen Mesquite fire units and 35 firefighters responded to the scene, and they were asssisted by four units from Dallas Fire Rescue.

The investigation into the cause remains unknown at this time.

"The fire is in the early stages of our investigation and remains under investigation at this time," says Green.
