15-year-old riding E-bike killed in collision with pickup truck at Hurricane intersection

A 15-year-old boy died Thursday after he was hit by a pickup truck while riding an electric bicycle at the intersection of 400 South and 400 West in Hurricane.

The truck was headed eastbound on 400 South with the bike headed northbound on 400 West when the collision occurred shortly after 7 p.m., according to the Hurricane Police Department.

The rider and bike were trapped under the truck, according to a release from the HPD. A registered nurse was on scene and attempted to save the boy's life, as did paramedics once they arrived on the scene, but they were unsuccessful, according to the release.

The driver of the pickup, a 56-year-old male from Santa Clara, was not identified. Police did not say whether any charges or citations were issued in the incident but said it was still under investigation.

The intersection, located in a residential neighborhood, has two-way stop signs for north and southbound traffic on 400 West.

"Our thoughts and sincerest condolences go out to the family of this young man," the release states. "We also wish to thank the Hurricane Valley Fire District for their assistance."
