PASCO COUNTY, Fla. – All Pasco County schools and district offices will reopen on Monday, October 3.
“Due to hard work, planning, and some luck, all our schools have power and had no significant damage,” the school district said in an email statement.
While Pasco County was spared the wrath of Hurricane Ian, many throughout the state have suffered great losses.
“Our hearts go out to the communities to the south who are looking at a difficult and long period of recovery and rebuilding. Here in Pasco, we are extremely fortunate to be able to return to our normal schedule on Monday,” said the district.
On Friday morning, Governor Ron DeSantis issued updates on Hurricane Ian at the State Emergency Operations Center with Division of Emergency Management Director Kevin Guthrie and Federal Emergency Management Agency Administrator Deanne Criswell. Today, Governor DeSantis is traveling to Fort Myers and St. Augustine to survey the damage.
There are currently 42,000 linemen responding to the more than 1.9 million reported power outages. They have already restored power to more than 700,000 accounts in Southwest Florida.
The Federal Government has also added the following counties to the major disaster declaration, meaning they will receive individual assistance and category A (debris removal) funding at 100% for 30 days: Orange, Osceola, Seminole, and Polk.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis will update the media and public at 5:20 pm Friday.
