UPDATE: A "shots fired" call inside a Northwest Austin hospital has turned out to be a false alarm.
This happened at Ascension Seton Northwest near Research Boulevard and Braker Lane.
Austin Police say the large response to the call was precautionary. We're told there was no gun fired, no one was injured and there are no fatalities, but earlier we saw a big response to what Austin Police tweeted was a "shots fired" call.
Emergency officials say it was a display of kind of training they been undergoing should an attack happen.
The hospital quickly locked down along with some of the nearby medical office buildings.
Ascension Seton released this statement:
At Ascension Seton Northwest, staff members and a visitor heard a sound they thought might be gunshots around noon today. In an abundance of caution, the hospital was immediately locked down and a code silver was issued.
Early reports called this an active shooter situation, but police say that was a precautionary call.
They did shut down Research Blvd. outside the hospital, and that caused major backups at the Braker Ln. intersection. The road has since reopened.
