So, what should audiences expect from “Werewolf By Night”? From the looks of things, the special is an ode to the classic Universal Monster movies and older creature features, complete with the monochrome look of a black-and-white film of that era. But the special almost offers a glimpse at what’s in store for the MCU in Phase 5 and beyond. In the clip, Feige promises that “we’re introducing a world that will ultimately become quite important to the future of the MCU” in “Werewolf By Night.” So, expect characters met in this special to show up later in upcoming horror-tinged Marvel fare like “Blade,” “Loki” Season 2, and “Agatha: Coven Of Chaos.”

Here’s an official synopsis for “Werewolf By Night,” courtesy of Marvel:

A secret group of monster hunters gather at Bloodstone Manor following the death of their leader and engage in a mysterious and deadly competition for a powerful relic, which will bring them face to face with a dangerous monster.

Gael García Bernal headlines the special as Jack Russell, a monster who hunter who moonlights as the titular monster-hero. “Werewolf By Night” also stars Laura Donnelly, Harriet Sansom Harris, Al Hamacher, Eugenie Bondurant, and Kirk Thatcher. Leonardo Nam, Jaycob Maya, Daniel J. Watts round out the main cast.

Composer Michael Giacchino makes his directorial debut with the Disney+ special. Heather Quinn and Peter Cameron provide the screenplay. This is the MCU’s first of two TV specials on Disney+ with this year, with “The Guardians Of The Galaxy Christmas Special” premiering this holiday season.

Rumor has it more monsters than Jack Russell will show up in “Werewolf By Night,” like Man-Thing and Ulysses Bloodstone, two major characters from the Marvel comics. Tune into “Werewolf By Night” when the special premieres on Disney+ on October 7 to find out if they appear.  Don’t expect Blade, though, as Giacchino has already shut down rumors of that potential appearance.  Watch the exclusive behind-the-scenes clip below.
