Emergency rental assistance program from MaineHousing paused

Emergency rental assistance program from MaineHousing paused
HAS THE DETAILS... AND WHY SOME ARE CONCERNED THAT CURRENT RECIPIENTS COULD BE AFFECTED... WELL THE UNCERTAINTY FOR THE THOUSANDS OF MAINERS LIVING IN HOTELS JUST GOT EVEN MORE SO AS MAINEHOUSING ANNOUNCED TODAY THAT THEY ARE PUTTING A PAUSE ON ALL NEW APPLICATIONS FOR THE EMERGENCY RENTAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM, MEANING THAT THOSE THAT NEED TO APPLY TO LIVE IN PLACES LIKE THE COMFORT INN IN SCARBOROUGH BEHIND ME WILL NOT BE ABLE TO DO SO. MAINE HOUSING TOLD NEWS 8 TODAY THAT THIS PAUSE WILL NOT AFFECT THOSE CURRENTLY RECEIVING FUNDING OR THE 11,000 CURRENT APPLICATIONS THAT ARE PENDING. BUT HOTEL STAFF HERE AT THE COMFORT INN SAY THAT THEIR FUNDING COULD SOON DRY UP AND THAT THOSE THAT ARE LIVING IN THIS HOTEL COULD BE AFFECTED BY THE LACK OF FUNDING. WE SPOKE TO ONE RESIDENT HERE WHO IS SCARED ABOUT HIS FUTURE. JACQUES MCQUILLAR/ COMFORT INN RESIDENT I DON'T KNOW WHERE I'M GONNA GO. OR WHAT I'M GONNA DO. (CRYING) IF I GO BACK TO THE STREETS I KNOW I'M NOT GOING TO MAKE IT. I'M GOING TO BE DEAD. I CAN'T LIVE LIKE THIS ANYMORE. SOMEONE NEEDS TO HELP US. NOW, THIS ONLY ADDS TO THE UNCERTAINTY FOR THOSE LIVING HERE AT THE COMFORT INN. THEY WERE SERVED A 30 DAY EVICTION NOTICE LAST MONTH AND THEIR STAY HERE IS ALREADY BEING PHASED OUT INTO NEXT YEAR. HOTEL STAFF TELL ME THAT THEY ARE WORKING ON A SOLUTION TO TRY AND KEEP RESIDENTS HERE THROUGH THE WINTER MONTHS. BUT AS THINGS STAND, THE LIKELY DESTINATION FOR THE PEOPLE HERE IN THE WINTER MONTHS IS ON THE STREET. IN SCARBOROUGH, JAMES CORRIGAN, WMTW NEWS 8.
