Thursday night, Murfreesboro Riverdale, let by Tennessee commit Caleb Herring beat Siegel High School 21-7 running Riverdale’s record to 4-3

For the four star Herring it was senior night and he had a couple of special guests in attendance Thursday night including his future head coach, Josh Heupel, who stopped by before heading to the west coast to see quarterback commit Nico Iamaleava.

“He didn’t tell me he was going to be here,” the 6-5, 230 pound Herring said. “I guess he was trying to surprise me. I’m not going to lie when I saw him a big ole smile came over my face. It was amazing seeing him out there.”

The other guest was current Vol linebacker and big brother, Elijah

“When I saw him, I got an even bigger smile,” Caleb admitted. “I love playing in front of him. Just having him out here and around me, it means a lot.”

The two are extremely close and Elijah hasn’t been able to see his brother play and Caleb admits it’s been an adjustment to not having his big brother on the field with him. The other challenge for Caleb this fall has been a nagging injury that is finally healing.

“I was banged up the first 4-5 games,” Herring said. “My knee is just now starting to really feel better. I wasn’t able to do the things I wanted to do, but I battled through it. We had our struggles the first half of the season, but now we are starting to turn things around.”

With big brother getting some pretty significant snaps on Saturday’s for Tennessee, the future Vol has been in attendance and likes what he sees individually from his brother and from the 4-0 Vols ranked in the top 10.

“I was at the Akron game,” Herring said. “Seeing my brother get those two sacks was crazy. Last week was a crazy atmosphere. Just getting to hang out with the players and seeing the things Tennessee has done makes me happy to be a part of them.”

The other part that brings a smile to Caleb Herring’s face is the relationships he built with future Tennessee teammates who are currently on the team and with guy who will join him in the class of 2023

“I met a bunch of them at the Rockytopology even back in the spring and as soon as I met those guys there was an instant connection,” Herring said of his future teammates. “All the commits and the players who are already at Tennessee are easy to get a long with.”

Herring is an On3 consensus 4-star and is ranked as the number one player in the state of Tennessee.
