Pitmasters and BBQ lovers will be living their best life this December 3rd in Paris, Texas. Seeking to seize on the newfound craze of competitive BBQ cooking, a new event taking place the first weekend of the month will host cookers from all across the region battling it out for The Texas BBQ Blowout Champion title and prizes totaling more than $12,000.

The Lamar County Chamber of Commerce will be hosting the event at the Love Civic Center featuring live music, BBQ tastings, a beer garden, kids corner and vendors. Proceeds from the event will benefit scholarship foundations at all Lamar County schools. With State Representative Gary Vandeaver assistance, the state of Texas has declared the event a State Championship Cook-Off and the winner will receive an invite to the American Royal in Kansas City.

“This event is sanctioned by the Champions BBQ Alliance, and The National Turkey Federation with big cash prizes up for grabs,” said Chamber President, Paul Allen. ‘

“Coming from a background in education, I’m passionate about anything that benefits our local students and I know this event is going to turn out successful for all involved.’ A pillar to the event, Damon Wells, is a Paris native who still takes great pride in his hometown has worked to bring together all parties involved to see this event come to life. “I’m from Paris and I’ve witnessed many cook-offs around the state and country in person,” ‘ said Wells.

“The idea of an event like this in Lamar County has been on my mind for a long time and it’s amazing to see the support we’ve had so far to make it a reality. Bringing new business to the community while raising money for kids to go to school – Great weather and great food, it’s a no brainer and we hope all come out to support the People’s Choice award with BBQ teams from each school competing for bragging rights!”

Those who have purchased tickets will have the opportunity to try BBQ from all area school teams in the BBQ Arena where teams will compete for the People’s Choice Award. The Texas BBQ Blowout will take place December 3, 2022, with additional events the days prior. A fantastic, nationally recognized band for December 1 will be announced soon, inside the Love Civic Center (tickets will be released soon) and a “Welcome to Paris” Fish Fry on December 2.
