GAME PREVIEW
  • As they've now done twice this season, SWOSU Football bounced back after a loss last week with a 38-31 win at Oklahoma Baptist in overtime to move back even at 2-2 on the year
  • The Bulldogs will have a chance to win back-to-back games for the first time since 2019 when Arkansas-Monticello comes to Weatherford this Saturday, October 1st
  • SWOSU will look to stop the running game of the Boll Weevils, who rank third in the league in rushing and are led by dual-threat QB Demilon Brown -- an already two-time GAC player of the Week ranked second in the league in individual rushing and has thrown for seven scores through the air
  • The good news, there's something in the air in Weatherford when UAM comes to town. SWOSU is 4-0 all-time against the Boll Weevils at home and they'll look to keep that streak alive on Saturday afternoon
THE OPPONENT – ARKANSAS MONTICELLO
  • This is the best start to a season UAM has had since the formation of the GAC. Originally picked seventh in the preseason coaches poll, UAM has started the season strong with a 3-1 record and is currently tied for second in the GAC standings
  • Aside from running the ball and Demilon Brown on offense, the Boll Weevils play the takeaway game the best of anyone in the conference. They lead the league in interceptions, 10, with the next team on the list having seven. Add two fumble recoveries onto that statistic and UAM is getting plenty of extra possessions every football game
  • Kaytron Allen (4) and DeQuan Street (3) account for seven of those 10 picks and rank first and second in the GAC respectively
  • Running back Jonero Scott adds to the one-two punch with 360 yards on 64 carries. He has three touchdowns on the year

SWOSU OFFENSIVE NOTES
  • SWOSU has now rushed for over 100 yards in back-to-back games after not doing so in either of the first two games of the season. Last Saturday's performance nearly saw two 100-yard rushers as Gerald Palmer went for 131 yards and a score while Troy Henderson finished with 98 yards and a score
  • Palmer became the first 100+ yard individual rusher SWOSU has had this season
  • Sticking with the running trend, SWOSU averages 43 points per game when they rush for at least 100 yards on offense. An uptick from the 18.5 ppg the previous two games when they did not
  • The Bulldogs would like to score early against UAM. So far this season, SWOSU is 2-0 when they put points on the board first and 0-2 when they play from behind
  • After three interceptions against Southeastern two weeks ago, his first turnovers of the season, Tylan Morton took care of the ball again at Oklahoma Baptist with no interceptions and he finished 26-38 for 233 yards and two scores
  • Against OBU last week, the offense was a perfect 4-4 on fourth down conversions. SWOSU is converting 4th downs at a 64% rate (9-14) on the year, good for third in the league. They have gone for it, and gotten it, the most of any team in the GAC
  • Third downs have been more challenging for SWOSU. They convert 30% of the time (21-70) which sits them 11th in the league
  • Not an offense-specific stat, but the Dawgs cleaned up the penalties last week against OBU and only had three in the game. SWOSU still ranks last in the GAC with 45 through four games
  • UAM is third worst in the league in penalties (32 / 79 ppg)
SWOSU DEFENSIVE NOTES
  • The Dawgs had their best defensive showing of the season against OBU after holding the Bison to 221 total yards including just 19 yards rushing
  • SWOSU had 15 tackles for loss through the first three games of the season, and nearly matched that mark against OBU when they finished with 14
  • To a similar tune, SWOSU had seven sacks leading up to the OBU game and finished with eight in the contest
  • 15 sacks on the season ranks SWOSU second in the GAC, in front of UAM who ranks third with 10
  • Rece Wilhelm had a pair of sacks against OBU and now has three on the season to lead the team
  • Jameon Mitchell became the fifth Bulldog to intercept a pass last weekend. Five different SWOSU defenders have an interception this season -- but nobody has more than that. Five INTs ranks SWOSU third in the GAC behind just UAM and SNU
  • SWOSU has had at least one interception in all four games this season
  • Keldric Martin had five tackles against OBU. He now sits sixth in the GAC with 7.8 tackles per game
  • The defense ranks fifth in the league in opponent third down percentage. SWOSU is holding teams to 35% on third down and 42% on fourth down. Also ranking fifth
  • In the red zone, SWOSU has held teams to 18-24 on scoring opportunities. 24 times in the red zone is the most chances any team has defended there, but six stops is also the most any team has prevented points on the board
  • Three of SWOSU's five INTs have come in the red zone this season
SWOSU SPECIAL TEAMS NOTES
  • Jaren Van Winkle was named the GAC Special Teams Player of the Week for the second time this season after making 3/4 field goals including the game-tying kick against OBU. He also averaged 40.3 yards per punt
  • He did miss his first FG attempt of the season last week and is now 7/8 on the year a 35-yard longest kick
  • Last week, SWOSU's Ashton Hamby blocked a punt that led to points for SWOSU on offense. It was the first blocked kick of the season for the Dawgs
