At the time of the shooting, 24-year-old Alfredo Vara was also in the home. Vara tried to help Gonzalez but he was fatally shot by Matthews.
Vara's girlfriend left the home while speaking to 911.
When officers arrived at the house, they said Matthews came out of the front door and tried to kill himself.
