High pressure building in from the northeast Pacific will start Portland on a long string of warm, sunny days beginning Friday.
Early morning skies may include some clouds and possibly some developing fog, although, a quick check of traffic cams around 5:30 a.m. didn’t show much fog except for some thin low clouds in the northern parts of Vancouver.
The National Weather Service says the warming and drying trend will continue into the weekend and for the foreseeable future, including well into next week.
Once any fog or low clouds clear off, Portland will see a partly sunny day with temperatures reaching about 76 degrees. The day’s offshore flow may help the coast be warm and sunny as well with high temperatures ranging from the upper 60s to the lower 70s.
Sunny skies continue into the weekend with both Saturday and Sunday expected to be clear, and warm. The high temperatures will be in the lower 80s, with Portland likely to see 83 degrees on both days.
Breezy east winds are also likely across the Cascades on Saturday as the upper low that moved eastward helps create a pressure gradient and stronger winds across the state. Gusts of up to 25-35 mph are possible overnight and into Saturday through the Columbia River Gorge and on the west slopes of the Cascades.
Extended forecast models are agreeing that the ridge of high pressure will remain in place much of next week. This will continue the warm, sunny weather through the first week of October.
