Local briefs include Saturday forums in Athens, postponed festival in Franklin Co

A Saturday session will focus on plans for an eastside library: it’s underway at 10 o’clock tomorrow morning at Fire Station 7 on Barnett Shoals Road. Athens-Clarke County voters approved the special purposes local option sales tax referendum that will fund library construction to the tune of more than $14 million.

There is weekend talk about plans for a new Athens-Clarke County judicial center: a public forum on the sales tax-funded project is set for 1 o’clock tomorrow afternoon at the Government Building on Dougherty Street in Athens.

The Georgia DOT says a third lane on I-85 north and southbound near Braselton will be opening to traffic. The new lanes will cover a four-mile stretch near Braselton, between the Highway 332 overpass and the Highway 53 exit on Interstate 85.

It is another casualty of the weekend weather forecast for Franklin County: the Fall Harvest Festival in Canon, originally set for tomorrow, has been rescheduled for October 15.

There is a $50 thousand donation in Franklin County, a gift from the Pilot Club of Lavonia to be used for the purchase of playground equipment in Lavonia.
