I-91 reopens in East Windsor following tractor-trailer crash

EAST WINDSOR, Conn. (WTNH) — A tractor-trailer crash shut down several lanes on both I-91 North and South in East Windsor Friday morning, which has since reopened, state police said.

The tractor-trailer and a Volkswagen Jetta were traveling southbound on I-91 near exit 45 at approximately 6 a.m. The tractor-trailer and the Volkswagen were both traveling in the center lane until the Volkswagen attempted to merge into the left lane and lost control of the car while navigating a right curve in the road.

State police said that as a result of this, the Volkswagen crossed back into the center lane and struck the left side of the tractor-trailer.

This caused the tractor-trailer to lose control, sticking the left side of the concrete barrier.

After striking the barrier the tractor-trailer traveled over the center median, struck a light support, and came to a stop straddling the left shoulder of I-91 South and the left shoulder of I-91 North.

Both drivers involved in this crash reported having minor injuries to state police, but officers said the driver of the Volkswagen refused medical treatment on the scene. The tractor-trailer’s driver was transported to Saint Francis Hospital.

The Volkswagen driver was found by state police to be at fault for the collision. Police cited the driver with an infraction for failing to maintain a proper lane.
