Due to Hurricane Ian, the activities surrounding Madison County High School (MCHS) Homecoming have been pushed back a week. The Homecoming game will now be the game on Friday, Oct. 7, against the Knights of Clearwater Academy International. With a new opponent, the theme of Homecoming Week will now be “Cowboys … A Knight's Nightmare.”
The week will be filled with fun activities that will certainly bolster everyone's school spirit, beginning with dress-up days throughout the week. Monday, Oct. 3, the theme will be “Character Day.” Tuesday, Oct. 4 will be Cowboys vs. Cowgirls. Wednesday will focus on generations with the ninth grade class dressing as babies, the10th grade class dressing as toddlers, the 11th grade class dressing as adults and the 12th grade class dressing as senior citizens. Thursday, Oct. 6, will see the classes dressing in school colors, with the ninth grade class wearing grey/silver, the 10th grade class wearing maroon, the 11th grade class wearing white and the 12th grade class wearing black. There will be no school on Friday, Oct. 7, in order to make room for the annual Homecoming Parade, which is scheduled to take place at 10 a.m. The anticipated parade route will be along U.S. Hwy 90, however, if an alternate route is necessary, the parade will use an alternate route from Pinckney Street to Range Avenue to Macon Street. A $20 entry fee for parade participation is due by Monday, Oct. 3, at 2:48 p.m.
The annual Homecoming Coronation will take place on Thursday, Oct. 6, at 2 p.m., in the MCHS gymnasium. The 2022 MCHS Homecoming Queen will be crowned during a special ceremony at halftime of the football game on Friday. Oct. 7.
The Homecoming football game will pit the MCHS Cowboys against the Knights of Clearwater Academy International. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m., at Boot Hill Stadium, located on the MCHS campus.
