MACON, Ga. (WGXA)- "We don't really give game balls but if we did she would receive one from me that night," says Jamarcus Johnson
Jamarcus Johnson, the head football coach at Rutland High School, is referring to 4th grader Ja'Kayla Hardy who help save a man's life.
He had just met Hardy at a football game when moments later, she saw an unconscious man in need of help under the bleachers.
"We were doing our pre-game and I heard her yelling my name. There's a man that has fallen out so immediately me and a couple of players ran over to see what was going on," says Johnson
Due to Hardy's quick thinking and bravery, the man was able to get the medical attention that he needed.
For that she is being rewarded with The Hurricane Hero Award, which was presented to her during halftime at the Thursday night game.
Johnson says her actions made her a prime candidate for the award.
" We try to take care of those kids by awarding them... awarding the kids that are doing the right things," Johnson expressed
Although Johnson and Ja'kayla, just met she was not afraid to call on an adult and Johnson said that experience will stay with him.
"She needed help and she got in contact with an adult and that's the kind of thing you raise your kids to do," says Johnson
