Married at First Sight UK spoilers follow.

Following last night’s revelation that Matt Murray and Whitney Hughes were eager to start a romance on Married at First Sight UK, the wannabe couple’s fate has now been revealed.

After plenty of deliberation with the experts, the pair were allowed to stay on the show despite their previous rule-breaking, which saw them get together despite already being married to other contestants.

They didn’t get it all their own way, though, with the pair set to return to the project as a “dating” couple rather than a married one, resulting in a major change for the programme.

Despite lambasting Matt and Whitney for their actions, the panel explained their reasoning behind the reversal.

“Whitney, I can see you are into Matt. You’ve really fallen for him, and for that I’m happy for you,” said Paul. “This was not the light you brought into this project, and now I can see that you have light in you. It’s beautiful to see.”

Mel used science as the basis for her decision, saying: “We have checked out the science, and you are a strong match on paper. But we’re really disappointed with the way this happened.

“We can see there’s something real here. The science backs it up, so we’re going to let you back into the experiment as a new couple. Not as a married couple but as a dating couple. We hope you honour this opportunity and make the most of it.”

Finally, Charlene offered advice to the new couple, saying: “We love love, but there is a lot of conflict around this relationship.

"I suppose our final word would be ‘we welcome you back, we support this relationship, but you have to do the work’. We just ask that you are respectful of the other couples and their feelings and emotions.”

Matt and Whitney were understandably relieved at the outcome, and they will now have to prove to the experts, other contestants and audience that their relationship is worth the format change.

Married at First Sight UK airs on E4 in the UK. Married at First Sight Australia airs on Nine Network in Australia and E4 in the UK.
