Walk to End Alzheimer's Scheduled for Saturday in Dunkirk

The Alzheimer's Association Western New York Chapter is inviting Chautauqua County residents to participate in the Walk to End Alzheimer's on Saturday at Point Gratiot Park in Dunkirk. The annual walk returns as a complete in-person event this year after COVID-19 concerns prompted the Alzheimer's Association to hold a virtual walk in 2020 and a hybrid version in 2021.

On walk day, participants come together to honor those affected by Alzheimer's and raise funds that ensure the programs and services provided by the Alzheimer's Association are free to all who need them. In addition, participants honor those affected by Alzheimer's with the poignant Promise Garden ceremony, with the colors of the Promise Garden flowers representing people's connection to Alzheimer's -- their personal reasons to end the disease.

Dana Corwin, Chair of the Chautauqua County Walk to End Alzheimer's, says, "Our team, the Chautauqua Office for the Aging, is a passionate supporter for the Walk every year!  At the beginning of planning for this year's walk, we noted we all have colors in this Walk. What we meant was, we all know a caregiver, a loved one living with Alzheimer's, a supporter for the cause, and maybe even a loss of that special person in our lives -- and we want to honor all of them. I invite all Chautauqua County residents to come out on Walk day, and bring a family picture or a picture of your beloved lost to this disease, put them on our memory boards to show we are in it to win it for them, for each other, and for our future."

Check-in and registration for the walk begins at 10:00 AM, with the walk starting at 11:15 AM. Click here for more information about the Chautauqua County Walk to End Alzheimer's.
