CBS Launches Companion Showcast for ‘The Young and the Restless’

In conjunction with the season 50 premiere of “The Young and the Restless” on Friday, September 30, CBS announced today the launch of a companion showcast that will debut simultaneously with the daytime series.

In describing the unique concept, CBS notes that a showcast is a modern take on the origins of soap operas on American radio that captivated many at-home audiences for years, giving fans an unprecedented method to access their favorite stories. Additionally, the network points out that this launch makes “Y&R” the first and only daytime drama with a showcast.

“We are thrilled to be launching ‘The Young and the Restless’ as a showcast. As we continue to expand our podcast offerings, we find shows that share a deeply passionate fanbase translate well into the audio space,” said Steve Raizes, EVP of podcasting and audio for Paramount. “We’ve seen significant success with this strategy with ‘The Late Show Pod Show with Stephen Colbert’ and ‘The Daily Show: Ears Edition’ and expect similar results with ‘The Young and the Restless.'”

A preview audio clip of the showcast was released which can be heard below as voiced by Sharon Case, who plays Sharon Newman-Rosales in the series.

“Now in its 50th season, fans can enjoy their favorite soap in podcast form,” says Case. “When ‘The Young and the Restless’ premiered in 1973, it revolutionized the daytime drama. It continues to set the gold standard with strong characters, socially conscious storylines, and epic love stories.”

“‘Y&R’ revolves around the lives and loves of the residents in Genoa City,” adds Case in describing the series to fans, new and old. “This midwestern metropolis is filled with generations of a wide variety of characters dominated by the Newman, Abbott, Baldwin and Hamilton-Winters families. Every week, hear all the rivalries, romances, hopes and fears from the Emmy award-winning series delivered directly to your ears.”

The showcast will be available via audio on all major podcast platforms starting Friday, September 30.
