Southern Connecticut men's cross country will travel to Bethlehem, Pa. on Friday, Sept. 30 to compete in the Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University. The Paul Short Run will begin at 10:15 a.m. at Lehigh's Goodman Campus Cross Country Course.

OWLS NOTES
  • SCSU Men's Cross Country opened the 2022 season with a fourth-place finish at the 2022 UMass Dartmouth Invitational at the the Robert Dowd Cross Country Course in Dartmouth Mass.
  • The Owls, in a field of 35 teams, combined for a score of 137 after their top-five runners placed in the top 37 out of 282. 
  • Southern finished behind Northeast 10 foe Franklin Pierce by 10 points (127), and ahead of Southern New Hampshire, in seventh place with 258 points, Assumption in 12th with 355 points and Adelphi in 15th with 413 points.
  • Jonathon Volpe (Naugatuck, Conn.) finished 12th with a personal-best time of 25:10.66 while Jake Mattei (Bethany, Conn.) clicked in at 25:35.12 for 25th place. 
  • Sophonias Dires (West Hartford, Conn.) finished in 31st at 25.44.10 for a personal-best time, beating his previous mark of 26:28.6 at last year's Lehigh Paul Short Run. 
  • William Lamburn (Northborough, Mass.) followed in 32nd place at 25:45.25.
  • Freshman Sean Barkasy (Manchester, Conn.) was 37th at 25.51.70.  
UP NEXT
Southern returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 15 when it travels to Rindge, N.H. to compete in Franklin Pierce's Bruce Kirsh Cross Country Cup.
