Stanley, Safford Lee

Safford Lee Stanley, 73 of Pembroke, VA departed this life September 29, 2022 in the care of Carilion New River Valley Medical Center. Born in Bland County on May 14, 1949, he was a son of the late Oscar and Nellie Jane Whitttaker Stanley.

Safford proudly served his country as a Corporal in the US Marines during the Vietnam War earning the Purple Heart and many other service medals. Of his great honors, having a family was his highest call to duty. When he was serving his family, he worked as a truck driver for Chandler Concrete. When he was looking for ways to share his most private gifts or exercise his mind, he enjoyed fishing, coloring and working puzzles.

In addition to his parents, Safford is preceded in death by a son, Walter Stanley; daughter, Sandra Stanley; and brother, Robert Stanley.

Left to cherish his memory to their hearts are his wife, Helen Combs Stanley; son, Amos Lee Stanley of Pembroke; daughter, Raleigh Stanley; grandchildren, Karissa Faith Robbins, Amos Lee Stanley, Jr, Kingsley Rae McGill, Destiny Whaley, and Matthew Accord; and sisters, Patricia Whittaker (Donnie) of Pearisburg, and Nellie Rose (David) of Montgomery County, VA,

The family will receive friends at Kendall Funeral Home for a visitation on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM. A funeral service will be conducted in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Jerry Hagerman officiating.
