Is another "Spygate" scandal developing in the NFL?
The league was reportedly investigating after the Miami Dolphins apparently spotted someone filming their Wednesday practice in Cincinnati ahead of Thursday night's game against the Bengals.
However, an NFL PR spokesperson said there was "no suspicion" of a violation being committed by any team with respect to the video being taken during the practice session, according to Mark Maske of the Washington Post.
The situation was apparently triggered after a Twitter user named "JfolkUHC" posted a series of videos showing the Dolphins' offense practicing its plays.
The practice took place at Nippert Stadium, home of college football's Cincinnati Bearcats. The university hosted the Dolphins so that the team could travel and practice without potential complications caused by Hurricane Ian, which made landfall in Florida on Wednesday. The walkthrough was the Dolphins' final practice ahead of Thursday's game.
Meanwhile the Dolphins were reportedly leaving nothing to chance just in case there was something untoward about the apparent filming of their practice session.
According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the team added an extra player to their offensive lineup in hopes of confounding anyone who might be snooping on their game plan.
Though the NFL seems confident the incident was not act of espionage carried out by a rival team, it nonetheless conjured memories of perhaps the most famous spying incident in league history, when the New England Patriots were fined for having filmed the New York Jets' defensive signals during a 2007 game.
