A major bridge replacement has closed East Market Street in York County and is snarling surrounding traffic.
“This bridge needs to be replaced. It's deteriorated. It's old,” said Dave Thompson with PennDOT.
For the next six weeks, the Route 462 bridge over Mill Creek will be closed to traffic as construction crews replace the structure. The 1959-built bridge is making way for a newly engineered bridge.
With the closure of this major artery, connecting the east side of York County with the City of York and all surrounding ramps for Interstate 83, traffic is a mess.
“It's definitely one of those situations where the pain we are feeling now will hopefully be worth the wait,” said Thompson.
To help out the traffic mess, engineers are adjusting the light cycles along Mount Rose Avenue to help with heavier flows being seen at that location.
The $6.4 million project is expected to be finished in early to mid-November.
