Certainly, a team’s motivation is likely to wane. Chalk that up to human nature. Once you’ve accomplished the ultimate goal, you’re bound to feel some satisfaction – and in turn, less hunger. It’s a phenomenon commonly known as “championship malaise”.
On the other hand, it’s hard to claim the Bucks were feeling it in 2021-22. In fact, had Khris Middleton not gotten injured, it’s hard to even say with confidence that they wouldn’t have defended their title.
Regardless, they did not, and the Golden State Warriors walked away from the season with the Larry O’Brien trophy.
