Ian brings heavy rainfall to Virginia

RICHMOND, Va. -- There will be showers Saturday morning, but rain chances will be spotty during the afternoon, with the exception of far western and northwestern VA. There will be many dry hours during the day, and some breaks in the clouds are possible. Highs will be in the mid to upper 70s.

Occasional rain will be around Sunday, and then turn more scattered Monday into early Tuesday. Dry weather is expected Wednesday and Thursday.

By the time all the rain is over, most locations will pick up 1 to 3 inches of accumulation. The majority of these totals will occur today and tonight. There will be some areas of 3-6" possible, mainly across far southern VA, where a flood watch is in effect. Coastal flood advisories & warnings are in effect for water levels 1 to 3 feet above normal during high tide cycles through Saturday morning.
