A California-based company that acquired the former Athenex plant in Dunkirk earlier this year will be reducing its workforce at the facility on Route 5 for the next 12-18 months. In an e-mail to WDOE News on Thursday, a spokesperson for ImmunityBio said that the decision was made after an in-depth review, which determined that the current facility has construction needs so that it can be used as it has been intended.
Below is the full statement from ImmunityBio:
ImmunityBio remains committed to the Dunkirk, NY area and the large-scale manufacturing facility. However, following in-depth review, we have determined that the current facility in Dunkirk has construction needs that may take approximately 12-18 months in order to enable the facility to be used as it has been intended. For this reason, we will need fewer employees during the construction period. However, employees who were laid off may reapply for open positions as they become available.
