Pedestrian struck, killed by vehicle in Pompano Beach

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit are investigating a single-vehicle crash that killed a pedestrian in Pompano Beach.

Broward Sheriff’s Office Fire Rescue personnel responded to a crash around 4:15 p.m. Wednesday near North Dixie Highway and West Sample Road in Pompano Beach.

Authorities responded to the scene and located an adult female on the ground unresponsive.

Paramedics pronounced the victim dead on the scene.

Investigators said the victim was later identified as Claudette Mauge.

Deputies identified the driver as Alexis Lesme.

Authorities said Lesme was driving a 2018 Honda Accord traveling eastbound on West Sample Road approaching the intersection of North Dixie Highway.

According to investigators, the vehicle was approaching North Dixie Highway when Mauge began crossing West Sample Road south to north through traffic.

Mauge was not crossing in a designated crosswalk but stepped into the path of the Honda Accord and was struck by the front passenger side of the vehicle, authorities said.

Deputies say that Mauge remained on the scene after the crash.

According to investigators, neither excessive speed nor impairment by the driver are considered contributing factors to the cause of the crash.

Traffic Homicide detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Deputies did not provide additional information.
