Ian continues to weaken, moving away from central NC

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — After making landfall near Georgetown, South Carolina Friday afternoon as a Category 1 hurricane with winds of 85 mph, Ian became a post-tropical system 20 miles northwest of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

While Ian is no longer a tropical system, it still had sustained winds of 50 miles per hour as of the 11 p.m. update from the National Hurricane Center. While gusty winds are still possible through the rest of the night, as the low pressure that is now Ian moves to the north at 15 mph our impacts will end overnight.

We had rain all day Friday totally more than 3 inches in some spots. In addition to the heavy rain, we’ve had gusty winds topping more than 40 mph.

The weekend is looking better with mostly cloudy skies on Saturday and just an isolated shower chance in the afternoon and evening with lighter winds. Sunday could see a couple showers late in the day as a trough of low pressure moves through.
