GRAND BLANC TOWNSHIP, MI - General Motors announced it will move its GM Heritage Center from Sterling Heights to Grand Blanc Township where the company’s former Customer Care and Aftersales world headquarters was previously located.

The CCA shut down its facility last year, affecting over 900 employees.

GM stated the move will “take place in a phased approach” as the Grand Blanc Township building is currently being renovated.

The move to the Grand Blanc Township facility brings GM’s heritage operations closer to GM’s original birthplace, Flint, which is also home to Factory One.

The Heritage team has searched for a larger, permanent facility to display an increasing number of GM’s archives, including the company’s vehicle collection, product catalogs, sales brochures, press materials and promotional records, per a Thursday, Sept. 29, GM news release.

“As General Motors transforms the future of the automobile, we also celebrate and commemorate our storied past and rich history with our fantastic GM Heritage Center,” said GM President Mark Reuss in the news release. “Placing it near our company’s birthplace only makes sense and, much like our investment in Factory One and in our current operations in the area, aligns perfectly with our strong commitment to Flint, where it all began for us.”

Last year, MLive-The Flint Journal chronicled the impact of losing the CAA building, and this move is expected to revitalize the area.

The Grand Blanc Township facility sits on 34 acres of land and should provide the opportunity to expand programming with increased vehicle and archive display areas.

Eventually, the GM Heritage Center expects to resume hosting events in the space.
