Oceanside’s Carte Blanche restaurant to close, citing pandemic and family health issues
The French-Mexican bistro and bar opened downtown two months before the pandemic hit
Carte Blanche Bistro & Bar, a family-owned French-inspired Mexican restaurant that opened two months before the pandemic arrived in March 2020, will soon close.
Owned by the Ross Family of All Family Hospitality, Carte Blanche will shut its doors sometime this fall. The final closing date is pending negotiations with a new restaurant lessee, which has been described as another restaurant group.
The 4,200-square-foot, 180-seat restaurant is in Oceanside’s SALT luxury apartment complex at 399 N. Cleveland St.
The Ross family, which has renovated and run several restaurants in Old Town San Diego through their Old Town Family Hospitality Group, is led by founder Chuck Ross. Carte Blanche was a project he developed with his sons Ryan Ross and Brandon Ross.
“Unfortunately, these past two years have been years of unforeseen circumstances both for our business and family,” Chuck Ross said in a statement. “As for most in the restaurant industry, the realities of the COVID-19 health crisis have put extraordinary stress on running a business. In addition, we have experienced a challenging health issue in our family that has refocused us on the importance of family in our lives.”

We are grateful to the Oceanside community for welcoming us with open arms and all the support shown to us throughout our time in Oceanside,” Ross said.
