ELMORE/AUTAUGA NEWS

The Millbrook Spirit of Christmas Committee, led by Chairwoman Kathy Kelley, has announced plans for this year’s celebrations.

This year’s annual Christmas Tree Lighting (complete with guaranteed snow) will be at 6 p.m. Dec.1 at Village Green Park. The annual Parade will be held Dec.3 at 2 p.m. from the Smokehouse Barbecue to Village Green Park. For parade day, there will be plenty of food and other vendors at the park for some Christmas shopping from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be on hand for FREE photos with the kids, thanks to Valley Bank and Barry Chrietzburg Photography.

The parade theme this year is “A Whoville Christmas.” Consider that theme now, as you prepare for having a float in the parade.

The grand marshal for this year’s parade is Kathy Kelley, who has overseen the annual Christmas event and participated on the committee for more than 30 years. (For once she may be able to enjoy the parade rather than keeping everyone in line.)

The committee met this morning, and will be reaching out to those who are interested in taking part in the Tree Lighting, Parade, Concessions, and entertainment for both the night of the Tree Lighting and Day of the parade.

If you have an organization or group that would like to offer entertainment for the tree lighting or parade day, please contact Sarah Stephens at editorsarah@yahoo.com.

Applications for floats and vendors are being completed and should be on the city’s website by Monday.

This year, businesses along Main Street are encouraged to decorate for the Christmas season. Awards will be given for the best of the best!

We will have much more information on the parade in the days and weeks to come.
