Tekila, a Mexican restaurant in Sussex, will temporarily close Oct. 2, Chaz Hastings announced.

Hastings, who owns the restaurant with his business partner, Scott Carleton, said they will temporarily close to focus on improvements and to have the two other long-awaited restaurants, LaCoppa Gelato and TiAmo Wine Bar, all open at the same time. TiAmo Wine Bar will also feature pizza, he said.

Originally, all three restaurants were scheduled to open in May 2020, but the pandemic interfered with that timeline. Tekila opened in December, while Hastings and Carleton continued to work on LaCoppa Gelato and TiAmo.

Hastings cited supply issues for the reasons why TiAmo Wine Bar and LaCoppa Gelato did not open. "We ordered furniture 11 months ago, and we did not get it," he said.  He noted that he has not had any problems finding and maintaining staff for the restaurants.

"Everyone loves the culture here," he said.

Tekila is on the bottom level of a mixed-use development next to Piggly Wiggly at N64 W23760 Main St. The upper levels have 40 apartment homes. La Coppa Gelato and TiAmo Wine Bar are scheduled to open next to Tekila.

Hastings and Carleton also own the Wisconsin Big Boy restaurant in Germantown.
