MACON, Ga. (WGXA) -- Southern Rock legends 38 Special are coming to Macon to headline the Veterans Day Celebration concert at Luther Williams Park.
The free event kicks off at 4:00 P.M. with a kids' zone, food trucks, and more before 38 Special takes the stage at 5:00.
With over 40 years of churning out Southern Rock hits and touring over 100 cities a year, the multi-gold and platinum record recipients are best known for their songs Hold On Loosely and Rockin' Into the Night.
Guitarist and vocalist Don Barnes says it's all about maintaining that intensity in their live shows. “We never wanted to be one of those bands that had maybe gotten a little soft or complacent over the years. We're a team, and it's always been kind of an unspoken rule that we don’t slack up, we stack up. We go out there every night to win.” Completing the team is bassist Barry Dunaway, drummer Gary Moffatt, and keyboardist and vocalist Bobby Capps. The most recent addition to the band is legendary virtuoso guitarist and vocalist Jerry Riggs.
The concert follows the Veterans Day Parade in Downtown Macon which begins at 3:00.
“I’m proud and honored that our community is again stepping forward to honor and thank our local Veterans for the service and protection they provided our country, and to thank the Cherry Blossom Festival and Macon Bacon for organizing this wonderful series of events,” says Macon-Bibb County Mayor Lester Miller. “To have our Veterans be the focus of a parade in the heart of our community, and then to hold a concert in their honor, says a lot about who we are and how we feel for the people who have kept us safe.”
