Updates about the Ime Udoka situation continue to pour in, and the most recent one was by NBA Insider, Jared Weiss, revealing how the management couldn't divulge information to the players regarding the controversy.
Talking to Jam Packard on his podcast, Anything is Poddable, much of the discussion centered around the first week of interim head coach Joe Mazzulla’s run in Boston, the changes that would be rung in, and the aftermath of Udoka’s fallout.
At one point in the podcast, Weiss revealed how the Celtics think-tank couldn’t tell the players about the ongoing.
"From what I heard, (Celtics management) went to players (about Ime) and said, ‘we, unfortunately, can't tell you anything for legal reasons’."
Players Left Shocked By The Ime Udoka Scandal
Celtics players were left shocked in the wake of Udoka’s controversy, along with the season-long suspension that followed. One of them was Jaylen Brown who expressed his thoughts saying it was “a lot going on.” Speaking to reporters on Media Day, he said:
"I think I was overall shocked by what was going on, a little confused, a little bit but a lot of the information wasn’t being shared with us or members of the team so you can’t really comment on it."
He also added that it was all about putting their best foot forward despite the murky events that unfolded in the camp.
“It’s a lot going on. Some we could control, some we couldn’t. The best we can say is to move on. Initially, reaction, I was a little confused. No one really has any of the information so it’s difficult to make a comment on how things were supposed to go and how the process went or anything. The best thing we can do is put our best foot forward.”
Udoka has been suspended for the entirety of the 2022-23 season and his long-term future with the franchise remains uncertain.
In the meantime, Boston is reportedly seeking permission to speak with Clippers assistant Jay Larranaga to join Mazzulla’s coaching unit. He spent nine seasons with the side before moving to Los Angeles. The team will open their regular season on October 18 at home against the Philadelphia 76ers.
