OREM, Utah — A man was taken into custody Thursday after exchanging gunfire with police outside an Orem home.
Just after 4 a.m., police were first called to a possible family fight at the home in the area of 400 South and 700 East. Officers were able to make contact with the man, and safely get the family out of the house.
A large number of armed law enforcement officers were on the scene outside outside the home, along with numerous emergency vehicles.
After negotiations with the man were started, he stepped outside of the house and "exchanged gunfire with the officers on scene several times," according to the Orem Police Department.
The man retreated inside the house before once again coming outside where he was taken into custody and received medical treatment and transported to the hospital.
Police have not released the condition of the suspect, but said an investigation led by the Utah County Officer Involved Critical Incident team is underway.
