Spencer, IA (KICD) — Nonprofit group Upper Des Moines Opportunity was one of 24 organizations to receive an Iowa Nonprofit Innovation Grant funded by the American Rescue Plan Act.
Upper Des Moines Director of Program Development Shakira Meyer tells KICD there are already plans to put the $450,000 they applied for to good use in Clay County.
Meyer says UDMO is looking to increase space to help reach more people as data shows that even though they’ve served many already, even more are expected to need assistance.
In addition to increasing their capacity for donations, they organization hopes to offer all of their programs in a central location for the community’s convenience.
The organization already offers a wealth of programs for all ages, and Meyer believes having the bigger central location will foster even more growth.
According to Meyer, they are currently looking at a couple potential sites in Spencer as it’s the largest community in Clay County and is where a large portion of those served are.
