National Preparedness Month is observed each September to raise awareness about steps individuals, families and communities can take to be ready for disasters and emergencies that could happen at any time. Commissioner Denice DiCarlo, liaison to the Emergency Response Department, is excited to announce the latest acquisition to the Hazmat Response Team, the HazMat Vehicle that was acquired using American Rescue Plan funds.
Gloucester County has a Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) Response Team, a highly trained professional group that is specially equipped to respond to the release of hazardous materials that threaten the citizens of our County, their property, and the environment. This vehicle enhances the ability of our Hazardous Material Team to respond to incidents, as the Vehicle does not require a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) allowing multiple Team members to operate the truck. The team responds to approximately 300 calls per year, ranging from Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) investigations, Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), Industrial or transportation accidents, and Narcotics.
